Sample Family Safari Itinerary

Here’s one example of a recent 10-day family safari.
Day 1
Depart on a direct flight to Johannesburg from Atlanta, New York, Washington or Chicago.
Day 2
Upon arrival in Johannesburg, you’ll be welcomed by a representative and escorted to your hotel/lodge. Spend a leisurely day enjoying a spa treatment or just relaxing after your long international flight.
Day 3
Depart on a morning drive to an intimate and private game lodge located within the world renowned Kruger National Park. After settling in to your suite, you’ll enjoy sundowners on the banks of the Sabi River before embarking on a night drive safari to spot the BIG 5 (Lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, rhino)
Day 4-5
Wake for an early morning drive through the bush to see what animals can be spotted. Breakfast is served under African sky while enjoying the sights and sounds of the wild. Spend your afternoon enjoying a spa treatment, or taking a guided safari walk through the bush where rangers provide an informative and interesting look at those aspects of the bushveld not seen from safari vehicles.
Day 6
Depart for the mother city of South Africa, Cape Town, where the rest of the day is spent at your leisure.
Day 7
After breakfast, visit Robben Island. It was here that Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for 26 years during South Africa’s apartheid era. Upon his release he became South Africa’s first democratically elected president in 1994. If it is a clear day, take a hike or cable car to the top of Table Mountain for a scenic view of the mother city.
Day 8
Travel along the scenic coastline around the southernmost tip of Africa to see where the mighty Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. Visit historic sights of South Africa’s first settlers and travel through little fishing villages on the way back to Cape Town. Spend the early evening at leisure.
Day 9
Depart for Johannesburg International Airport where you bid farewell to South Africa and make your way home.
